SUMMARY:Workshop: The power of stories: taking a narrative approach
DESCRIPTION:About our workshop \nNarrative approaches co-create stories of hope and liberate people from the residue of unhelpful experiences. It takes the position that we all live our lives in a series of connected stories that join together to create some dominant themes that shape our lives. Sometimes the dominant themes are unhelpful and hold people back from creating better potential futures for themselves. Narrative approaches explore the power of stories and seek to invite clients to re-author their lives and bring forth alternative version of stories that are more life giving and enhancing. \nAbout our speaker: Dr Barbara McKay \nDr Barbara McKay is a social worker\, systemic psychotherapist\, supervisor\, and trainer who has held positions in statutory and voluntary sector organisations.  \nShe has held leadership positions in two major charities in the UK and until 2019 she was the Director of the Institute of Family Therapy\, a post she held for 13 years through a transformation period. \nBarbara holds qualifications from several universities in the UK and has continued to work in higher education delivering training in systemic therapy. \nSince 2019\, Barbara has moved into independent consultancy practice delivering therapy\, supervision\, coaching and consultations to individuals and groups in health and social care sectors. She continues to teach leadership programmes blending relational approaches with business research. \nBarbara has served on the Board of Trustees of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice and continues to serve on the Board of the CMMI\, Institute for personal and social evolution. \nShe has authored several articles and book chapters on transformational change as well as more traditional themes of systemic therapy and supervision. \n  \nSaturday 13th April\, 10.00-16.00 \nRoss Street Community Centre\, Cambridge\, CB1 3UZ \nFree for Cogwheel counsellors \n£30 for Cogwheel alumni \n£60 for other external participants \nTo book call 01223 464385 or email admin@cogwheel.org.uk
