In 1991 they were married but, as time went by, all was not well, “when the children were small we found that we were getting out of sync with each other.”
The couple approached The Cogwheel Trust for help and, the counselling service offered just the help they needed. Their marriage was put back on track, and they haven’t looked back. “Our relationship has just got richer.”
On their 25th wedding anniversary they celebrated with family and friends and invited them to donate to The Cogwheel Trust in gratitude for the help they had received, and the impact it had had on their lives.
The Cogwheel Trust’s relationship counselling is not just for couples who are experiencing difficulties, but also for those who would like to understand each other better. Talking together with a qualified professional can make a real difference to a relationship.
An ex-client of The Cogwheel Trust, raised £2,500 for the charity by completing a personal challenge of running 2,019 miles from 1 February 2018 to 31 January 2019, including an ultra-endurance event every month.
Inspired by his own experience of mental health issues and a chance meeting with someone who had lost a partner to suicide, Alun Lucas took on the challenge to raise awareness of, and valuable funds for The Cogwheel Trust.
Alun commented: “84 men in the UK take their own lives every week. On New Year’s Eve 2017, I met a woman whose partner had committed suicide. She was intending to Run Every Day January for Mind. I joined in. At the end of January, I kept going – inspired to say ‘Thank You’ to all who have helped me with my own mental health: my children, family, great friends and colleagues, a wonderful GP who ‘went the extra mile’ and referred me to The Cogwheel Trust – and in doing so, helped save me – the counsellor at The Cogwheel Trust who repeatedly asked ‘Who are you?’, a special godfather and his wife, and the woman who inspired me to start this journey from which I have already gained so much. Thank you.”
