Children’s Work

Cogwheel also has a small but busy department that works with children from the ages of about 6 to 16 years old. When a parent makes a referral the Children’s worker will follow up the contact to discuss the parental concerns regarding their child and to explain the services we offer and to determine whether it is in the child’s best interest to come to Cogwheel or whether it is best to signpost to a more appropriate service.

Children come to Cogwheel for a variety of reasons and usually it is because they are troubled and distressed by a number of issues, including parental breakup, bereavement issues, moving home, school, country, bullying, lack of confidence, loneliness and isolation, peer group exclusion.

There are two rooms dedicated to working with children and they are well resourced with art materials, sand trays, toys and other things to allow children to use the creative arts to express themselves.
